HEALTH MINISTER PAYS HISTORIC VISIT TO PRESTEA: “GOVERNMENT IS BUILDING ADDITIONAL HOSPITAL AT MUNICIPAL CAPITAL (BOGOSO), AS WE UPGRADE FACILITIES AT PRESTEA GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL” HON. KWAKU AGYEMANG MANU ASSURES.
For the first time in the history of Prestea Huni-Valley
Municipality, a sitting health Minister has paid a working visit to Prestea
Huni-Valley, specifically Prestea Government Hospital, today 10/05/2018 to have
firsthand knowledge of the facilities of the only hospital in the Municipality.
Speaking to Prestea Communicators for Development (PCD), the
Minister, Hon. Kwaku Kwaku Agyemang Manu said “government has chosen to build
an additional hospital at the Municipal Capital (Bogoso), while making sure
that the existing Prestea Government Hospital is given a facelift to provide
optimal care to the good people of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality”.
The divisional Chief of Prestea Himan Traditional Area, Nana
Nteboah Prah IV had appealed to the Minister that, with the coming in of a new
hospital ( which according to him, “could have been cited in Prestea”), the
existing facilities at PGH must be upgraded.
Responding to the appeal by Nana Nteboah Prah IV, the Health
Minister said, “ Bogoso is the Municipal Capital, and that has been a major
criteria in decision over citing of additional hospital”. Also, there is no
hospital there, and it is important we look at that. That notwithstanding, we
will make money available for upgrading, as “you” have suggested, but there is
money here (in Prestea)” the Health Minister added.
The Health Minister was unhappy with the way the country
keep changing governments every eight years, “ Kuffour came, the country was
Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC), he worked hard and by 2008, he had moved
the country to Middle Income Country”. But another government came, 2008-2016,
and look, they have sent us back to IMF. So, we are going back and forth. At a
standstill. I hope this time, we will learn our lessons and allow this
government which has the welfare of the people at heart to rule for long. Not
those who came and filled the stomachs” Hon. Agyemang Manu added.
The MP for the Prestea Huni-Valley, Nkossuohemma Hon. Lawyer
Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources,
thanked the Health Minister for the Historic visit to PGH, and the Municipality
in general. She added that, she is happy that government is going to put up an
additional hospital for the Municipality. “We want the new facility be
accessible to all the people of Prestea Huni-Valley, from all corners, and I
think that is fair and that has informed the decision over citing of the new
hospital. However, as the Minister said, we are not going to leave PGH in this
state. We all know the contribution Prestea has given to this country over
years (over 100 years gold mining in Prestea) and deserve a better hospital.
There is Mineral Development Fund (MDF) and there are Mining Companies here who
have social responsibility towards this hospital, so we are going to make sure
within my first four years, we will have a befitting hospital in Prestea. You
are all aware of my contribution to this hospital (PGH) with respect to getting
incubator here and your “air condition requested” was donated by MCE Mozart K.
Owuh just last two days” she added. She
added that, “Nana Nteboah Prah IV has started a mortuary and I will appeal he
completes it”.
Mrs. Theresah Smith Abbey, the Nurse Manager of PGH, on behalf
of the hospital thanked the Minister of
Health. MP and the MCE for coming. “ We are very grateful
for your coming, and we pray that what you have promised us today comes to
reality. She quickly added that,”in health, we don’t work in isolation, our
roads are bad. So we beg you, prompt the Minister for Roads and Highways to do
his part”.
The entourage of the Minister of health included the Western
Regional Director of health, Dr. Jacob Y. Mahama, and other staff of Ghana
Health Service in the region.
